In 1851 Stephen C. Foster wrote "The Swanee River" (Old Folks at Home) which was adopted by Florida as its state song. However, in late 2007 new song entries were submitted for consideration as becoming the winner (by voting) as the new state song of Florida. Voting results were announced on 1/11/08 and the winning song (from  3 finalists) was: Florida (Where the sawgrass meets the sky)  with music and lyrics by Jan Hinton, of Pompano Beach.. More here
